<video:title><![CDATA[Where Are We Now? Health & Happiness Lessons We've Learned in 100 Episodes]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Episode 100! We made it to triple digits here on Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories. After two years of recording, we are proud of the 100 stories we’ve had the opportunity to share as an award-winning podcast. To celebrate, Tamika sat down for another solo episode reflecting on the past 100 episodes and broke down some of the health and happiness lessons she’s learned and implemented.

Looking back at episode one, Tamika realizes that in the last two years her story has evolved along with the show. She went from someone who was sick, still harboring some anger from past jobs, and looking for quick fixes to someone who is prioritizing her own health and happiness. Thanks to the array of inspiring guests, Tamika spent the last two years learning tips on health and happiness that she never knew, and has begun to implement them in her own routines.

Here are some of the biggest things she didn’t realize before sitting down to record episode one:

- She learned from Chris Rackliff that self-care isn’t grandiose, instead it is the small, consistent things that you do everyday that allow you to fill your own cup and show up for yourself each day.
- Ashley Lyn Olson and Marizza Contreras taught us that sometimes the most tragic things create the most good, and help put what's important into perspective.
- Jay Casale and Angela Cruz taught us that it is important to tell the stories of the journey you are currently on and the value of being real in the moment – even if that means sharing the struggles.

On top of these major lessons, Tamika shared that she gained inspiration from her guests to make changes to her day-to-day that’s helping her transition from burnout to balance.

- She’s stayed consistent each day in giving herself breaks. Trips to the gym, breaks from work, and meditation that she’s picked up.
- She’s focused on the energy she allows around her, she’s recognizing what’s serving her and what’s not - and learning how to say no. ]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Using Yoga to Heal]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[When Adrian Molina moved to Miami, yoga changed his life. Now, he has found his passion -- using yoga to have the same impact on others. In this episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, Adrian shares his story of becoming a yoga teacher, and how it led him towards the opportunity to make a change in his community. As the founder of Warrior Flow Foundation, Adrian provides access to yoga in underserved communities across South Florida. He is committed to making yoga accessible to more people and educating them on the benefits yoga has.

When Adrian moved to Miami from Argentina, he had never heard of yoga. But soon after he tried it, the 21-year-old’s life was never the same. Adrian quickly pursued a career teaching yoga and has done so ever since. After a move to New York and spending almost a decade “on the go”, Adrian decided to move back to Miami to enjoy the slower pace of life, and reflect on where he wanted to see his life go.

Adrian slowly came to realize just how privileged someone usually has to be to enjoy yoga. Yoga studios pop up often in white, rich neighborhoods and on busy city streets, but rarely in lower income or minority neighborhoods.

Upon moving back to Miami, Adrian had it in his heart that he wanted to open a nonprofit. It wasn’t until he spent a year taking care of his ill mother that he truly saw all of the pieces of his dream come together. There were so many communities – the sick, homeless, imprisoned, essential workers, and more – who did not have access to yoga, and they deserve it.

In November of 2019, the Warrior Flow Foundation was created to bring trauma-informed yoga, mindfulness, sound therapy, and stress-reduction practices into places where they are most needed. Their mission is to ignite change through their programs, working with doctors, nurses, the homeless, schools, and more.

Even amongst a pandemic, Adrian and Warrior Flow Foundation continue to bring a sense of hope and comfort to people who]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Trips 4 Women: A Ride-Sharing App Fighting Sexual Assault with Anna Prince]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[The convenience of ride sharing has taken over major cities across the country and the world. However, with increased use comes increased safety concerns. Each year, hundreds of riders and drivers are reporting experiences of sexual assault, a problem that mainly impacts women. On today’s first episode back with Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, we’re joined by Trips4Women spokesperson Anna Prince who’s stepping up to keep women safe. Trips4Women is a new women-only rideshare app with a mission to keep women safer and prevent sexual assault.

A New Take on Ridesharing

It is not uncommon for women everywhere to worry about their safety. Many situations have the potential to leave women feeling unsafe, but are oftentimes unavoidable. Calling a rideshare should be easy and convenient for everyone, but that guarantee isn’t always there when using popular rideshare options. The founders of Trips4Women saw a need. They didn’t want to change the rideshare experience, they just wanted to make it safer for women everywhere. They operate with only women drivers (background checked) and women riders, offer rides between safer hours of 7:30am - 10:00pm, and pay their drivers a living wage.

The Inspiration for Safety

Both Anna Prince and her partner have women in their life they want to keep safe. They have daughters, granddaughters, friends, and family that they consistently found themselves worrying about. As South Florida residents, an area with the 3rd highest cases of human trafficking and other chances for harm, they unfortunalty were not strangers to sexual assault. This personal experience led to a brainstorm - how could they prevent this from happening to the women they love?

Building a Business for Change

Both Anna and her partner came to a conclusion. Support groups and resources for victims are so important, but they wanted to do something to prevent the sexual assaults before they even happen. Their market research proved that women want to fe]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[“The love that I have for bodybuilding is big, but it’s not as big as the love I have for competing,” says Alex “Fello” Cambronero.

Alex is the ultimate competitor and he will tell you so. He reached the “pinnacle” of his bodybuilding career this year - winning the 2020 Arnold Classic and now preparing for the Olympia, a long way from where he started at just 134 pounds. An avid thrill seeker and athlete, Alex has always strived to be the best. In episode 18 of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, Alex motivates with every passionate word spoken as he talks goal setting, purpose, and working for what you want.

Shortly after moving to South Florida from Costa Rica in his twenties, Alex began working on his strength and physique. He soon became intoxicated with the rewards and, not long after, became passionate about bodybuilding. Since 2013 he has been competing and training, always chasing the next goal with every muscle in his body. Since 2018, he worked tirelessly towards his biggest goal yet, winning The Arnold Classic. This competition has the highest regard and respect in the industry, and in 2020 Alex was named the Arnold Classic Physique Champion- all thanks to his hard work and mindset of a champion.

Never not chasing a dream, Alex is off to the Olympia in Las Vegas (COVID-19 permitting) in December to grace the world’s largest bodybuilding stage and WIN. IT. ALL. He told our host, Tamika, he was going to do exactly that when they first met 7 years ago. She was training for her first bodybuilding show ever, and he and his wife Maggy coached her every step of the way while all eyes in South Florida were watching. Together they both own their own private personal training gym in South Miami, Pro Level Fitness.

It’s a reunion you don’t want to miss in this episode, The Ultimate Competitor and His Road to the Olympia.

<video:title><![CDATA[The Food App with a Waste-Saving Purpose]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Almost 40% of all food produced in the US is wasted. In addition, 10% of people in the US are food insecure - which means the food wasted could feed those who are in need and there would still be food left over.

These stats, while shocking, are not hard to believe when you consider the potential for waste at restaurants, grocery stores, and even in our own homes. This is what shocked Rafael Garrido and his wife Monica into action, together creating a digital marketplace dedicated to helping food retailers earn revenue and new clients by selling their food before it is wasted. Their app LOVVETT is taking South Florida by storm.

Rafael spent most of his career in a global consulting firm leading strategy and growing global businesses. He was never the type to shy away from taking on bigger and better projects, but one day he had a choice -- continue down the same path or find a new one that could make a bigger difference in the world? As a self-proclaimed foodie who was raised to be mindful of his waste, the mission for LOVVETT was a natural fit. The Garrido couple started on a new journey.

The concept of LOVVETT is a win-win for everyone involved. Founded in the height of the 2020 pandemic, restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, and other food-based businesses partner with the app to list their unsold goods at the end of the day, that would otherwise be thrown away. Consumers then get a notification and the opportunities to buy these goods for up to 60% off. Waste is reduced. Restaurants gain new customers. Consumers also have an opportunity for discounted food.

Today, LOVVETT can be used for food pickup in select cities throughout South Florida, but they are growing every day. As Rafael explains, they’re in the midst of mastering one city at a time and learning from their mistakes. He says, “Nail it and then scale it.”

Each app download, restaurant partnership, and purchase made gets them one step closer to launching in a city near you -- which also m]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[Dr. Hervé Damas, MD, MBA, former NFL Linebacker, and founder of Grassroots Wellness joins us as a guest on Episode 4 of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories. Hervé shares the far from typical career path he has taken, from his “dream job” in the NFL, to starting medical school in his 30s, and then how wellness changed his life in more ways than one. It makes sense why Hervé says, “I like playing life on the difficulty setting.”

Dr. Damas’ high school dream to play football led him to a successful college football career followed by a short stint in the NFL. However, after a career-ending injury during his rookie season, he faced the fact that his future might not unfold as he once thought.

His career evolved from a Linebacker with the Buffalo Bills, to a strength and conditioning coach, a wellness director, and a college professor, but Hervé admits that he wasn’t quite living his life with passion and purpose. It wasn’t until his mother, who was facing her second battle against breast cancer, shared a few inspiring words that he left his “perfect job” and followed the new path he is still on today.

As the founder of Grassroots Wellness, Dr. Damas acts as a medical practitioner, advocate and researcher on cannabis-based holistic medical treatment.

What else can you expect in this episode?
- How Hervé navigated losing a piece of his identity, and what it took to find it again.
- The early signs he would have a future in medicine.
- A conversation with his mother that made him realize what he was missing in life.
- How learning how to listen to his own body led him to healing others in similar situations.
- The holistic medicine approach that was like “putting a new battery in his back”.

<video:title><![CDATA[Sustainable Practices To Protect Our Marine Life and Planet with Rachel Shanker of Manatee Lagoon]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[This week we’re taking a look below the surface, just in time for Earth Day. On Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories we welcome Rachel Shanker, the Conservation Liaison & Educator at Manatee Lagoon. Manatee Lagoon is a free Palm Beach County educational attraction with a dedicated area to view manatees up close. In this episode, Rachel educates us about the eco-discovery center, why the Manatees come to hang out there, how we all can protect them, and other sustainable practices we need to keep in mind for the betterment of our planet.

Discover Manatees

Manatee Lagoon is an FPL Eco-Discovery Center that features free experiences for visitors to learn all about Manatees and what makes them important to our environment. They are located near Florida Power & Light Company’s adjacent Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center. Such proximity means that in the colder months, the warm outflow from the energy center attracts Manatees who naturally can’t survive in cold water and seek out warmth. In fact, about half of the population of Manatees in Florida now rely on power plant outflow during the winter for warmth. This statistic raises questions - What did the Manatees do before the power plants? Where do most manatees in the world live? That’s where Rachel and Manatee Lagoon’s expertise and education becomes important.

Education for All

Rachel Shanker grew up in Florida surrounded by aquatic wildlife, so naturally she pursued marine biology. While attending Florida Atlantic University, she joined a program that partnered with Manatee Lagoon, starting her connection with the center early on in her career. She started her time there running day-to-day educational programs, and even after earning a masters in biology she left the research behind to continue to work in the educational side of her field. Her internship turned into a full time position with Manatee Lagoon, where today she runs their programming on educating the public on Manatees and sus]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Sharing The Dark Side of our Moons with Tricia-Noel Burke]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[No matter our age, location, or background, there is one thing that ties us all together: the authentic human experience. Our stories and our emotions make us unique, but for Tricia-Noël Burke they also bring us together. This week’s Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories guest is a new author who combined her passion for storytelling with her love for dance and created her first book Black Moon. She approached her writing by turning challenges into vulnerability and connected the movement of dance positions to stories from women around the world.

Lifelong Movement

Tricia-Noël Burke is a Houston, Texas native who brought her passion for dance with her across international borders, in homes around the world, and even through virtual dance classes. She shares that dance has always been a part of her life, but rarely was it more than a hobby. To balance her career in the corporate world, she practices ballet and contemporary dance. Along with teaching lessons and a year-long opportunity to dance on a cruise ship, she always found a way to keep dance a part of her life.

A Storytelling Journey

Tricia-Noël’s international travels provided her the chance to meet many unique individuals from around the world. She learned that no matter the region she was in, she met women who carried a lot on their shoulders, who might crack or stumble along the way, but managed to find strength and pick up the pieces as they went on. Her connection to these women inspired Tricia-Noël and the idea for Black Moon was born.

Phases of Life

The idea for Black Moon was simple, to combine her love for writing, the stories of women from around the world, and connect the emotions to dance and movement. Tricia-Noël wanted to showcase just how similar we are and show that being vulnerable about our challenges does not have to be a bad thing. Just how the moon goes through phases, we do too. Tricia-Noël shares that she had to feel in order to create, and as a result she created ]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Runway of Dreams: Making Clothing Accessible to All]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Thanks to Mindy Scheier, the world is becoming more accessible to people with disabilities. During her 20 years in the fashion industry, it never occurred to Mindy (or her peers) that there was a huge demographic of people missing out on having clothes made with their needs in mind. Like many Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories guests, it took a life-changing event for Mindy to find her new passion. Mindy had her “ah-ha” moment when her 8-year-old son (who was born with Muscular Dystrophy) wanted to dress like everyone else, despite his disability.

For Mindy, getting dressed has always been a highlight of her daily routine. She applied her love of clothing to her fashion career, where she spent two decades working on design teams and as a stylist.

Another huge part of her life? Her family. Mindy was blessed with a son named Oliver, who has Muscular Dystrophy. Oliver and his family faced many challenges due to his disability, and getting dressed was one of them. Mindy relied on dressing Oliver in sweatpants, but he wanted to have the option to dress like everyone else at school, and wear jeans, like his friends.

In this moment Mindy’s son reminded her of the power of clothing – confidence, independence, expression.

At first, Mindy granted her son’s request by using her fashion knowledge and “arts and crafting” a solution just for him. It made her think, how are other individuals with disabilities handling this? There was a hole in the market, so in 2014 Mindy set out to make the fashion industry more inclusive. Runway of Dreams was created to take Mindy’s modifications and incorporate them into mainstream fashion. Since it was founded, they have worked with brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Kohl’s, Target, Zappos, and more.

With more than one-billion people with disabilities on our planet, Mindy looks forward to educating the next generation of designers and making inclusivity in clothing the new norm.

<video:title><![CDATA[Prioritizing Sleep and What It's Costing You When You Don't with Dr. Angela Holliday-Bell]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Are you getting enough of it? Are you prioritizing it? Can you go without it? This week on Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories we’re finally diving into a subject everyone can relate to: SLEEP. Joined by sleep expert Dr. Angela Holliday-Bell, we discuss common FAQs about sleep, like how many hours we really need and how to get it. With the holiday stress in the rearview mirror and a flurry of new year's resolutions now top of mind, listen in for tips on taking back control of your sleep and feeling your best self.

Finding Passion in Sleep

Dr. Angela Holliday-Bell is a board certified physician, sleep coach, corporate wellness consultant, sleep blogger, and all-around sleep ninja. With a long personal sleep journey of her own, Angela found a passion in helping people get their best sleep. Growing up, Angela had a great relationship with sleep. She loved it and never had trouble falling asleep when she needed it. It wasn’t until her medical school residency when two factors came into play and changed her sleep experience. A demanding schedule and increased stress caused Angela to struggle falling asleep (and staying asleep) for the first time. This had a direct impact on every aspect of her life, and caused her to dive into research to understand how to get back on track.

Prioritizing your Best Self

Angela’s experience needing sleep, but not being able to sleep was enough to motivate Angela to do a deep dive on sleep research. One of her first conclusions was that sleep and sleeping trouble is not emphasized enough when we talk about wellness. Sleep keeps our body functioning properly, and without it, it’s impossible to perform at your best. The more Angela learned, the more passionate she became about the subject. In her last year of residency, she started writing about her “road to sleep recovery” along with her findings on her sleep blog. One of her biggest conclusions? We simply aren’t prioritizing sleep enough. Angela got her sleep certificati]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Preventing Injury Through Physical Therapy]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Dr. Katie Dabrowski is passionate about blending the worlds of injury prevention, training, rehabilitation, and recovery to promote an all-encompassing approach to physical therapy. In this episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, the Old Bull Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation co-founder is changing the game of physical therapy. Truly living her dream, Katie is making it known that anyone can benefit from the help of physical therapy. Her practice combines training and therapy, and focuses on building healthy habits for continued strength.

As a young adult in college, Katie would have never guessed she would be embarking on entrepreneurship in the world of physical therapy. An athlete her whole life, Katie is no stranger to movement’s impact on our bodies. After spending her undergrad studying neuroscience and spending much of her time in a lab setting, she realized she was not fulfilled. She was lacking human connection and the ability to see the difference her work was making in the real world. One day, after speaking with a mentor who suggested she try physical therapy, her life was forever changed.

With her physical therapy degree and new passion for helping people live their best lives, Katie set her sights on shifting the mindset of how therapy was traditionally viewed.

In the fall of 2019, Katie had a conversation with Old Bull Athletics founder (and prior podcast guest!) Frankie Telfort – a conversation that soon turned into a business meeting. Their shared passion for bringing physical therapy into a gym setting was brought to life this year as Old Bull Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. Even amongst a pandemic, they are still working one-on-one with their patients, giving them the ability to live their healthiest lives.

What else can you expect in this episode?
- Why Katie gave up a chance to get her PhD and how she decided her dream was worth taking a chance for.
- Why you should be getting ready for Squatober.

<video:title><![CDATA[Preventing Breast Cancer & Achieving Better Health with Dr. Kristi Funk]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[On this episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, we’re talking everything breast health, the methods of cancer prevention, and the powers of plant-based eating. Our guest Dr. Kristi Funk is a wealth of knowledge, known for her work as a board-certified physician, TV personality, author, and celebrity physician. In this episode, Dr. Funk tells the story of her path towards advocating for the breast health of women around the world, and provides actionable advice for breast cancer prevention.

Becoming Dr. Kristi Funk

Like many people, Dr. Kristi Funk has a path that wasn’t completely linear. She started her college career with coursework in psychology and drama. One long night, during her first ever all-nighter, Kristi had a thought creep in that would not leave her mind; she should become a doctor. She first discounted the thought as a sleep-deprived distraction, but two days later, it was still in the back of her head, so she thought it might be worth listening to that voice.

After those two days, on a summer mission trip in Kenya, Kristi spent time with kids and formed a bond, making each other laugh and forming a connection despite their language barrier. This connection led her to realize that she did want to become a doctor because of how much health matters. Disease robs people of joy, and the joy she felt on that trip was everything she needed to motivate her on this journey.

Not “Just” Breast Health

Fast forward, and Kristi changed her courses to pre-med, graduated with only one extra year, and moved on to medical school. Every residency and rotation she pursued, she fell in love with. Eventually she moved back to LA for a fellowship in breast surgery. Because of its reputation as being easy, her first instinct was of pride, that it was somehow beneath her and her skills. She realized – to her patients, it was never “just” breast surgery. With that realization, she pursued breast surgery and has had the time of her life working ]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Naked and Afraid Stars Talk All Things Survival with Matt and Brooke Wright]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Could you survive harsh environments, with no food, water or shelter, and rely purely on your survival know-how? After years of watching one of her favorite shows, Naked and Afraid, Tamika is thrilled to host this episode’s guests for a chat on survivalism and entrepreneurship. Brooke and Matt Wright have not only challenged themselves on Discovery’s Naked and Afraid many times, but they’ve also built a thriving business sharing their expertise with others across the country through their business Extreme Instinct. In today’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, get a glimpse into what prompted their passion for survivalism, and leave with actionable steps to increase your survival skills – no matter your skill level.

Building Instincts

Brooke Wright was born and raised in Colorado as a self-described country girl. She spent plenty of time outdoors and was exposed to her natural environment, but would have never imagined how well she would get to know the outdoors until she had her first date with Matt. On their first date, Matt told Brooke all about his passion for survivalism. And their first sleepover? It was in the woods with no equipment.

For Matt, his passion for survivalism started at a young age. He was always the kid who was wilder than the rest, doing things the primitive way – even if it posed more of a challenge. Once he wrapped up his time in the military, he realized that he wanted to take his passion for survival and make it into a business. Therefore, Extreme Instinct was born.

Surviving Entrepreneurship

In 2005 Matt started his new career in survivalism as a hunting guide, and he sold custom knives through Extreme Instinct. The idea came to him after he had his own knife break. He thought, “How can I have a knife I trust?” The answer was to make it himself. This was just the beginning of the services Extreme Instinct would go on to offer. He partnered with Brooke, and together they grew the business through wor]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Miami Spa Month: Crystal Healing & Other Peruvian Wellness Techniques with K'Alma Spa]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[This week on Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories we are celebrating Miami Spa Month with Marizza Contreras, founder of K’Alma Spa. Marizza became a self-made entrepreneur in 2004, but she brought a new wellness retreat to life with the start of K’Alma Spa in 2018, combining her background in the wellness industry with her passion for changing the lives of her clients. The shift in her approach to wellness took place after her own life-changing event.

“I never thought this was my path until I had a stroke,” Marizza said.

Today, she’s created K’Alma’s services to be truly unique. They incorporate Marizza’s Peruvian culture with elements of crystal healing, guided meditation, and shamans. It is a spiritual space to work not only on your body, but on your soul.

Marizza’s career started in the luxury hotel spa business. First, she worked as a consultant. Then, she took on the title “business owner” when she opened Miami’s first mobile spa in 2004. During those years, Marizza’s business was one of typical service -- massages, facials, etc. -- until one day her perspective changed. Marizza experienced a life-threatening stroke, what she now knows was caused by stress at the time.

The days and weeks following the stroke were scary for Marizza. She couldn’t talk. It was difficult to walk and do many other things she normally would for herself. When she was discharged from the hospital, she decided to do something she thought would make her feel like herself again -- she got a pedicure. But that experience hurt her in a way she did not expect. The nail technician called her “entitled” and “rude” because she didn’t speak or move quickly enough when being served. She didn’t know what Marizza had just been through.

That is when Marizza’s personal mission changed forever.

Being mistreated made her realize how important the client experience is. Today K’Alma Spa operates under new core values: Compassion, Connection, Collaborat]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Life After The Olympics: From a Gold Medalist to Certified Financial Planner with Lauryn Williams]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Have you ever wondered what life looks like after the Olympics for some of the top athletes in the country? In this episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories we are joined by Lauryn Williams, Olympic athlete turned financial planner, author, podcaster, motivational speaker, and volunteer. While her journey through sports was an incredible experience, Lauryn shares her story of the challenges she faced post-Olympics and the drive she needed to be prepared for life off the field.

Journey to the Olympics

Growing up, Lauryn Williams did a little bit of everything when it came to sports. Naturally athletic, with a competitive spirit, she found herself good enough to be successful in competitive sports. When she realized her track and field career could help her pay for college, Lauryn worked even harder – knowing that this was her shot to afford a good education. Lauryn joined the University of Miami Track & Field team and by junior year won her national championship, becoming the second fastest in the world that year. Lauryn was then offered a spot on the Olympic team, and after some discussion with her coach she decided to take the opportunity.

Her Olympic Career

Lauryn competed in her first Olympic Games in Athens, Greece in 2004. She says that she never felt pressure, but instead was excited for the life-changing experience. Her family supported her, came out to cheer her on, and Lauryn walked away with a silver medal. After four trips to the Olympics, Lauryn ended her Olympic career as the first American woman to earn a medal in both the summer and winter Olympics.

Upon returning home from the Olympics, Lauryn started to realize that getting back to “normal” was a difficult adjustment after working so hard in her sport. With support from her family, she realized she is more than an athlete – but not before struggling to come to terms with this new identity. After a loss in her family in 2008, she was forced to slow down and focus on herself]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[Angelica Sweeting is the first Black woman to hold a utility patent in the toy industry, an accomplishment she’s proud to wear today – but one that did not come without a lot of ups and downs along her winding entrepreneurial journey. One of those highs was being featured on Shark Tank in 2017 and snagging a deal with shark, Daymond John, but shortly after the lows became very low.

For the first time in 5 years, Angelica is able to discuss her Shark Tank deal gone bad, and how she’s bounced back from the hardest period in her life. As Angelica says, “Failure and mistakes are part of the process.” On this episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, get a first look at her new business, My Mella Magic, the first doll with interchangeable hair, and why she says her mission is to empower young girls to use their voice.

Entrepreneurial Spirit

Since her college days, Angelica Sweeting had an interest in business. After pivoting from her pre-med track, she fell in love with business after the first class she took, and knew she found the right place for her. After graduating with a business degree she found success starting a corporate career.

Then one day, after being inspired by her young daughter, entrepreneurship called. Her daughter was upset that she didn’t feel beautiful, that she didn’t look like all of the “pretty” dolls in the stores and Angelica saw a space to make change. She designed a doll that had natural hair, dark skin tones, and facial features inspired by her daughter and other beautiful Black women. She saw quick success when her kickstarter for Naturally Perfect Dolls went viral, raising $85,000 and meeting her goal in just 48 hours. Angelica was doing what had never been done in the toy industry, and she was ready to take her business to the next level.

Swimming with Sharks

As a first-time entrepreneur, Angelica was learning how to grow a business along the way. In 2017, she had what she thought was going to be a life-cha]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[Our skin is our largest organ, so how we take care of it (and what we put on it) matters. When three close friends were diagnosed with breast cancer, Ira Green was inspired to make a change. It started as a reset for the products she was using in her life, opting for natural products where she could trust every ingredient. When she saw a gap in the market for a natural deodorant that actually worked, she left her job in finance to found Freedom All-Natural Deodorant. This week’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories includes Ira’s story through entrepreneurship, what she learned from her research of topical products we use every day, and how she is handling her own breast cancer diagnosis with strength.

From Finance to Freedom

Ira Green’s first career served her well. She spent her days running a financial firm, and as a finance nerd she enjoyed the work and the money she made. She never expected to make such a big shift in her career, but when three of her friends were diagnosed with breast cancer she was inspired to make a change. As she supported her friends through treatment and chemotherapy, she learned exactly how important it was to pay attention to the things we put on our body, and not just in it. She researched what it meant to use natural products and what ingredients to avoid to take the best care of ourselves. She says that soaps and lotions were easy to find swaps for, but she had a hard time finding a natural deodorant that worked well, felt luxurious, and had only the right ingredients.

Healthy, Not Stinky

Not only did Ira see a need for a natural deodorant that worked, she felt the call to bring one to market herself. She dove into research, testing, and development and brought to life Freedom All-Natural Deodorant with the tagline “Be healthy, not stinky.” In this journey, Ira learned a lot about what makes “regular” deodorants less than desirable. She educates us on the difference between organic and natural, that an a]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Is This My Life? Help For Healthcare Professionals with Dr. Naomi Jean-Baptiste]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Almost 400 medical professionals die by suicide per year, and that was before the pandemic. Medical professionals, like today’s Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories guest Dr. Naomi Jean-Baptiste, are experiencing something many haven’t before -- and as a result are under unimaginable stress. Dr. JB has been on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic since day one, and she identified needs that weren’t being met -- mental wellness support for her peers, access to medical information for the public, and a need to reduce burnout rates in the medical profession. In today’s episode, Dr. JB tells her story of becoming an Emergency Medicine Physician, how the pandemic has impacted her, and why she founded Hope4Med.

When Dr. JB started her path through medical school, she thought her calling was to become a pediatrician. After making it to a pediatric rotation and realizing that probably wasn’t the best fit for her, she started to rethink what her calling was. Before she was able to decide, her attention was pulled somewhere else. While still in medical school, Dr. JB witnessed her birth country of Haiti become devastated by a life-changing earthquake. Dr. JB flew there within days to act as an emergency medical professional and help those impacted by the natural disaster.

That experience showed Dr. JB how much she was passionate about helping in an extreme time of need. Though she didn’t pursue a career in international medicine, she did pursue the path of becoming a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician in Florida.

Well into her career, Dr. JB was surprised with yet another life-changing emergency to deal with: the COVID-19 pandemic. When it hit, her friends and family asked, “Will you still go into work?” For Dr. JB, that was a no-brainer. She was trained to handle situations exactly like this, and wanted to provide care to as many people as she could. She’s lost colleagues and people close to her have gotten sick, but she comes back to work]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Invisible Illness: From Paralysis to Powerful with Alyson Seligman]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Alyson Seligman is reminding us that there is so much more than what meets the eye. This week’s guest of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, had a 30th birthday that changed the course of her entire life. When her unknown invisible illness suddenly made her paralyzed and sent her to the hospital, Alyson started a journey of recovery and managing her symptoms. It took getting diagnosed with an invisible illness for Alyson to learn what that phrase even meant, and today, 12 years later, she’s passionate about educating others on everything she’s learned about invisible illnesses. One of the ways she’s doing this – educating workplaces about how to create a compassionate workplace, and empowering women to take on challenges with strength.

Uncovering an Invisible Illness

Alyson Seligman knows what it is like to overcome obstacles. When she was about to turn 30 she had plenty going on: a new baby at home, just back to work, and trying to navigate what it meant to have a life outside of being a mom. As her birthday week went on, she started feeling sicker and sicker, and eventually made it to a doctor. When the first doctor simply brushed her off, it wasn’t until she had severe symptoms that she stood up for herself to get real help. It took a trip to the hospital and a knowledgeable neurologist to see exactly what was going on, and eventually Alyson got a one in a million diagnosis, transverse myelitis.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Transverse myelitis is an inflammation of both sides of one section of the spinal cord. This neurological disorder often damages the insulating material covering nerve cell fibers (myelin). Transverse myelitis interrupts the messages that the spinal cord nerves send throughout the body.

Alyson spent a month in the hospital after becoming temporarily paralyzed, focusing on what she needed to do to get better.

Finding New Opportunity

<video:description><![CDATA[Jaimie Hilfiger is a model, actress, beauty mogul, and self-made entrepreneur -- yes, with a famous last name too. BUT that is only one small fraction of her story. She’s opening up about her skincare struggles with type 2 rosacea -- and how it led her to launch a skincare line, break into the beauty industry, and help others cultivate confidence through self-care.

“Never be afraid to be yourself” is her mantra. In this episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, Jaimie tells her story of early success, letting go of insecurities, and embracing inner and outer beauty.

Don’t let her name fool you -- Jaimie Hilfiger worked exceptionally hard to get where she is today. Jaimie was raised in New York and started modeling at the young age of 7. She let modeling take a backseat while in school, but after graduating college early, Jaimie set out to LA to pursue the entertainment industry. She hit the ground running, found an agent, and worked her way up in the industry.

Jaimie’s experience in front of the camera drastically changed after a move to Miami in her late 20’s. Almost immediately, her skin began to break out in welts. She had severe redness and there was nothing Jaimie could do to calm it. In an industry where looking her best was an expectation -- and part of the job, this was a hard pill for Jaimie to swallow.

Her livelihood was at stake.

Jaimie was eventually diagnosed with Type 2 Rosacea and started her hunt to find a way to restore the smooth skin she once had. The harsh products her dermatologist was recommending only made things worse in the long term.

<video:title><![CDATA[Insulin Resistance and Weight Gain with Baptist Health's Dr. Pascual De Santis]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Today we’re diving into the details of our health and learning all about Insulin Resistance - what it is, what it means, and how we can all prevent it. We’re joined by Pascual De Santis, M.D., an endocrinologist with Baptist Health Medical Group, for this eye opening episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories. Dr. De Santis breaks down the answer to common questions you might already have, while leaving you with healthy habits you can start today.

Finding His Place

Born in Venezuela, Pascual De Santis knew he had a future in medicine as early as high school, and worked hard to bring that dream to life. He pursued medical school in Venezuela and finished his training after a move to the United States. His interest in both clinical medicine and research led him to Endocrinology, where he could combine both passions. With a specialty in diagnosing and treating conditions related to the endocrine system, Dr. De Santis has become very familiar with common health conditions, including Insulin Resistance.

The Science Behind Insulin Resistance

Dr. De Santis opens our conversation by breaking down what Insulin Resistance is and how to recognize it in ourselves. Put simply, when our tissues don’t respond as they should to our hormone insulin, they instead cause traits common in this disorder. Classically, this can be a precursor of diabetes, but the two aren’t always linked. The cause of Insulin Resistance is a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental factors, so our habits are very important in avoiding a diagnosis. The signs aren’t always easy to identify so Dr. De Santis implores everyone to begin healthy habits now as the best form of prevention.

Building a Healthy Lifestyle

When it comes to the symptoms of Insulin Resistance, Dr. De Santis says the easy answer is that there are none. However, there are changes that happen in parallel to the disorder, like weight gain and fluctuation. Something he does know to be true? The power of mai]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[I’m back for a solo episode to celebrate my 5th anniversary in business -- as the Founder & Chief Storyteller of TB Media Group. This special occasion calls for something, well, special….A GIVEAWAY! For the first time ever, I decided to do a giveaway of not one, but two things that my audience has been asking for! In this episode, you’ll find out what they are and how to sign up for them.

I’m also taking a moment to reflect on this 5th year in business, a wild 2020 to say the least, and share the 5 highs and the 5 lows that have come with it.

December 14, 2020 marks 5 years (officially) in business. Why do I say officially? I was working full time and TB Media Group was a side hustle for the first three years I was in business. I didn’t have the intention of going full time with a content marketing and video production agency….but then I got laid off from my full time job. Now, a little over two years later -- and 5 years after I started -- here I am making a podcast episode about 5 years in business and creating a giveaway for YOU! That’s how cool life is…

To celebrate this milestone, I’m doing something I’ve Never done before and hosting a giveaway!

What Am I Giving Away?
- My Equipment Toolkit - My favorite things to use when producing video and audio content at home.
- A 1-Hr On-Camera Speaking Skills Class (limited spots available)

The giveaway is live until Friday, Dec. 18 at 8pm.

Milestones are a good opportunity for reflection, so I’m also sharing my 5 highs and 5 lows in business this year.

5 Lows in 2020
1. A client of mine had to close as a result of the stay at home orders due to Covid-19.
2. A big project that was in the works (and I was really excited about!), was put on hold indefinitely. This also resulted in big time revenue loss.
3. Someone I worked with closely shared racially insensitive content on social media following the George Floyd murder. There is no room for ha]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[Every now and again, you just have to have a dance party in your living room. That’s just some of the happiness advice Matt Howard shares in today’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories. For Matt, music is always essential. Currently working as the Principal Percussionist with the LA Philharmonic, Matt shares his story on how his path led him to his dream job so quickly. Even during a pandemic when he can’t perform live, Matt still finds a way to bring music into his life – and the lives of others.

Matt still pinches himself when he is reminded that he is living his dream playing music for a living. Growing up, Matt recalls that there was always music playing around the house. From oldies to modern rock, he found himself drawn to the artists his parents would play. When they saw he caught the music bug, they helped him pursue his passion. Matt learned how to play the drums and other percussion instruments and attended a high school music program.

As a senior in high school, Matt didn’t think that he wanted to have music as his life-long profession. But when an accident left him temporarily unable to play - he knew he had to do something after graduation. Time attending community college, led Matt back to becoming obsessed with percussion.

“If you want to get good at something, you have to obsess over it,” says Matt.

Today, Matt lives out his days continuing to find happiness in music. While Matt isn’t performing any live shows in the near future, he still is bringing his passion and his music world-wide, through his social media presence and master classes.

What else can you expect in this episode?
- A behind the scenes look inside the percussion room in the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
- The many types of percussion instruments Matt has played.
- How Matt has tried to make the most of 2020 and the curveball the year has thrown.
- Matt’s feeling on the digital era, and the impact sharing online has brought to his industry.

<video:title><![CDATA[Holistic Nutrition: Why Diet & Exercise Are Not Enough]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Jennifer Jones has over a decade of experience in health and wellness. Specifically she’s found success in holistic nutrition, and so have her clients. She doesn’t focus on the calories, diet trends, food, or exercise alone – but looks at the whole individual.

After implementing a holistic approach to nutrition in her own life, Jennifer saw dramatic results that included relief from debilitating menstrual cycles. Now, as the CEO of JENuine nutrition, she teaches her clients (with a 100% success rate) how to eat for life, to help naturally reduce stress, balance hormones, and lose weight.

Jennifer Jones has always had a close relationship with her body. She spent most of her life as an athlete, staying fit with training and exercise. She then moved on to bodybuilding, competing for 4 years.

After spending those years on a bodybuilder’s diet, she decided that there had to be a better way that didn’t involve limited food options (chicken, broccoli, and sweet potato -- anyone?), restricting calories, and two-a-days in the gym. After plenty of research and practice, Jennifer learned to listen to her body and approach food with intuition, not just a meal plan.

Once she mastered this holistic approach to nutrition for herself, she began applying this approach with her own clients. She wanted to change people’s lives through new habits and lifestyle changes, and not quick fixes. JENuine Nutrition was founded with this idea in mind, a move to Houston, and a fresh start for Jennifer.

Today JENuine Nutrition focuses on nutrition psychology and behavioral sciences to give clients a transformative experience. Jennifer looks at the whole of the individual, the connection between mind, body and spirit, and the impact of not only diet and exercise, but sleep, stress, and more.

Also, mentioned in this episode - John Lewis’s conversation with Tamika about healing his body through a whole-foods, plant-based diet. Watch Episode 5: Taking Healing Into You]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[Are functional mushrooms the next great health secret? Earth and Star are doing their part in letting the secret out. They’re pairing the family-friendly mushroom extracts with everyday products to bring health benefits to anyone, even “mushroom haters”. Two-time entrepreneurs and founders Zoe and Erica join us on today’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories to shed light on the science behind functional mushrooms and the challenges they faced to make their products widely approachable.

Setting a Blueprint

Erica Huss and Zoe Sakoutis are no strangers when it comes to running a successful health company. In 2007 they founded Blueprint, a cleanse and juice company, and have been work-wives ever since. They describe themselves as wellness-seekers at heart with complementary skill sets that made teaming up a natural fit. Erica gives credit to Zoe for introducing her to not only using food as fuel, but the world of raw food, detoxing, cleansing, and more. Even though they launched at the height of a market crash, they saw rapid growth and sold Blueprint in 5 years. That experience prepared them as business owners, to be ready for anything.

A Variety of Benefits

Years later, Erica and Zoe continued to pursue wellness in their daily lives, always interested in discovering the next great thing. That thing today? Functional Mushrooms. The benefits are nearly endless, with different types supporting immune systems, balance, energy, focus, sleep, skincare - the list really does go on! Functional mushrooms aren’t exactly what they seem, but extracts that carry over little to no discernable flavor. The science isn’t brand new, in fact many other countries have studied the benefits. When Erica and Zoe were introduced, they were quickly hooked on diving into the scientific findings and knew this would be their next venture to make such benefits accessible to the American consumer.

<video:title><![CDATA[From Surgeon to Stroke Survivor with Bevan Choate]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Have you ever wondered what your doctors do when they get sick? Dr. Bevan Choate is shedding light on what happens when doctor becomes patient. After suffering a stroke in his 30s, Dr. Choate’s perspective on what it means to live a good life is forever changed. In this episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, we walk through Dr. Choate’s experience adding stroke survivor, author, artist, and more to his name.

An Unexpected Result

A science lover at heart, a young Bevan Choate decided to pursue medicine during his time at undergrad. He excelled at medical school and went on to complete his 5 year Urology residency in New Mexico. The moment he began practicing, he knew he had found his calling. Just two years later, however, Dr. Choate had an experience that changed his perspective on what it meant to be a good doctor. In 2020, he woke up one morning feeling off. After a trip to the ER he was told that overnight he had experienced a stroke. Even though he lived a healthy life, he was one of the rare 30-somethings who had to deal with the aftermath of a stroke.

In the Middle of a Storm

With no obvious cause for his stroke, Dr. Choate had no choice but to focus on his recovery. The stroke left him off balance and with less control over the left side of his body. He had multiple surgeries following the stroke, and was sedated on a ventilator for nearly a month during that recovery time. Dr. Choate views being alive as an accomplishment, and doesn’t take the lessons he learned from his life-changing experience for granted.

He says, “Part of life is being happy when you’re in the storm.”

His perspective on what it meant to live a good life shifted, straying from the “accomplishment-centric” mentality and learning to enjoy the little moments too.

A Lesson in Empathy

What started as a method of rehabbing his left hand and re-learning to type, Dr. Choate started documenting his experiences since his stroke. Now, he was writing about his ex]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[We’re kicking off Mental Health Awareness Month with an important conversation surrounding stigma, mental health challenges, and resources that are saving lives. Joined by Jarrod Strickland, Executive Director of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Florida, this episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories discusses Jarrod’s own mental health past that led him into the field of helping others, and the impact of the work he now does with NAMI Florida.

Delayed Diagnosis

Jarrod Strickland finished his freshman year of high school excited for a big summer ahead. His first year of high school was a big transition period for him, like most of his peers. Unfortunately, that feeling of uncertainty grew and on the night before his summer vacation, Jarrod experienced his first panic attack. At the time he did not have the resources or knowledge to understand what was going on, but he faced these panic attacks almost daily for over a year and it started to take a toll on him physically and mentally. Because this was over 20 years ago, neither Jarrod or his family had the awareness about mental health challenges to identify or find solutions for his panic attacks. His high school experience changed dramatically and had to be homeschooled. He graduated and immediately after school joined the military. He was discharged due to traumatic brain injuries sustained in combat, and over the course of treatment received mental health diagnoses for the first time. He admits his life “was sent into a spiral,” but was finally able to start his road to recovery.

Giving Back

When Jarrod finally started to understand more about himself and his mental health journey, he became passionate about helping others who might be in the same position as him. He found his way into a psychology program and started a career giving back to his peers working for the Wounded Warriors Project. After some transition and a global pandemic, Jarrod found a new position as the Executive Dir]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[What if we told you there was a way to live a healthy lifestyle without sacrificing some of your favorite treats? Thanks to Cristie Besu, that has become a reality. Helping people end the choice between health and delicious, Cristie founded Eat Me Guilt Free. What started as a passion project grew significantly, and she continues to grow today as the demand for her protein-packed, low-carb brownies spreads across the nation.

Cristie Besu has always known what it was like to hustle, because even during her 9-year career as a nurse she found a passion in health and nutrition. While not on the clock, Cristie was spending her years competing in bodybuilding competitions on and off for 7 years and coaching her personal nutrition clients on her days off.

One thing Cristie learned from her years of working with clients was that on the healthiest diets, they still missed that treat of a good chocolate dessert. That feedback led to some trial and error, and eventually Cristie’s famously good, protein-packed brownie. After a few personal batches (and sharing the brownies to her network on Instagram), Cristie wanted to see what would happen if she opened an ecommerce store to sell a few more of her homemade, saran wrapped brownies. The result? Nearly $1 million in sales after year one and the chance for this project to turn into something huge.

The accidental entrepreneur took that first year of sales as the validation and confidence to keep going in this business, and over 6 years later her products are sold in Vitamin Shops, GNC’s, local grocery chains, and soon to be even more! With more innovative products to come, beyond their brownies, tortillas, and bread, Eat Me Guilt Free continues to help healthy individuals curb their sugar cravings one bite at a time.

What else can you expect in this episode?
- Why Cristie’s brownies were a pioneer in the high protein product market.

<video:title><![CDATA[From Cystic Acne To Med Spa Entrepreneur for Melanated Skin with Maghan Morin]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Entrepreneurship is in Maghan Morin’s DNA. From being raised by an entrepreneur to starting her first company in college, Maghan is no stranger to working hard to make her dreams come true. In today’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, Maghan tells her story that led her to her latest business endeavor: Melanated Beauty Spa. After over a decade of struggling with her own skin and experiencing first-hand how traditional spas were not able to always provide her the customer service she deserved, Maghan knew what she needed to do.

The Path to Entrepreneurship

Maghan Morin does not have what you might consider a typical career path. While she was exposed to entrepreneurship from an early age, Maghan Morin began her career with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. She went in with a passion for telling stories, but after struggling with the confines of the stories she had to tell, she realized that was not the career for her. That transition didn’t slow Maghan down, but instead used the experience from her in-college side-hustle to lead her to London to design shoes.

Maghan didn’t stop there. After some time, she felt called to move back to the states and find a home in Miami, where she then pursued social media marketing – with her own twist. She launched her own agency, going door to door to local restaurants selling her services. As she was working for herself, Maghan saw yet another need in her local area, a coworking space that catered to working women just like herself. While this business ultimately did not survive the pandemic, it opened the door for Maghan’s latest business: Melanated Beauty Spa.

What the Spa Industry was Missing

From the age of 14 to 25, Maghan struggled with cystic acne and hyperpigmentation. During that time, she saw many professionals who could never get her skin in better health. She spent a lot of time and money, and more than once, estheticians would turn her away because they lacked experience with col]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[From Caregiver to Innovative CEO with Sydney Hughes]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Some of the most passionate entrepreneurs are those who build a business out of a need. That’s how Senior Proof came to life. Sydney Hughes was taking care of her aging father when he had a fall, a common yet dangerous possibility many older people face. Even with her background in the construction industry, Sydney could not find a resource to quickly and expertly senior-proof his home and make it a safer space to age in. So, instead she made it happen herself. In this week’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, Sydney tells the story of building a business as a full time mom and caregiver, with a passion for making homes safer for one of our most vulnerable communities.

Finding a Passion

Sydney Hughes has always been a hard working woman. Even while being a full-time student, she held a job that kept her busy and taught her the lesson of hard work from an early age. One day at that job, a woman who noticed her hard work opened a door for Sydney to start as an admin for a real estate construction company. While she didn’t know it at the time, this was the start of her 15-year career in construction, working her way up from that first admin position.

Sydney’s hard work didn’t stop there. On top of being a mom of two and taking care of her household, she stepped up to help care for her father for three years as he was aging. In these three years, she had a wake up call when her dad suffered from a bad fall. She realized it was a product of an unsafe environment and was committed to finding a way to make his home safe again for his new needs.

Love and Necessity

After her dad’s fall, Sydney could not believe how difficult it was to find someone to hire to make her father’s home safer. There wasn’t a construction company, handyman, or business out there who could do it all or manage the project alone. In her already busy life, she didn’t have the capacity to handle it alone, yet she knew she needed to make it happen for her father. Sh]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[From Cancer Diagnosis to Holistic Health Solutions with Amber Laign]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Amber Laign found inspiration in one of life’s biggest challenges. When her partner was diagnosed with breast cancer, Amber was faced with the emotional challenges that come with stepping up as caregiver. Between the symptoms her partner – Robin Roberts of Good Morning America – faced post-treatment and the toll the experience took on Amber herself, she found solutions in essential oils. Inspired by her background in massage therapy, Amber’s deep dive into the benefits of essential oils turned into a business, Plant Juice Oils, when her product using Broad Spectrum CBD + essential oils started producing results in her community. Listen to this week’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories for more details about Amber’s wellness journey, meeting her business partner, and the work they’ve done during five years in business.

Introduction to Wellness

Amber Laign started her career in New York City as a jack of all trades. Once a dancer, Amber’s career progressed until she found herself working in her city’s garment district. Then her life changed dramatically along with her partner’s breast cancer diagnosis. Between her demanding job and becoming a full time caregiver, Amber realized she needed to treat her time differently. She spontaneously quit her job and decided to pursue a passion she had quieted years before, massage therapy. This introduction to the wellness industry introduced Amber to the tools and resources that would help her start her business down the road.

Essential Findings

When her partner Robin was done with treatment, Amber noticed they both were left with side effects. Robin, from her treatment, and Amber started to have trouble sleeping from all the stress. Amber started to look for solutions – a natural way to remedy their symptoms. She was introduced to essential oils through her work in massage therapy and it sparked an idea. There were so many plant oils out there with a variety of benefits. Why couldn’t she]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[From Burned Out to Brain Food: Making An All Natural Energy Bar with Manny L.]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[If you fuel your body with good food, your brain will run well. This advice comes from Manny L., this week’s Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories guest and Heaven’s Pantry co-founder. After experiencing the all-too-familiar corporate burnout, Manny came to realize just how important it is to give your body the food and drinks that keep you going – in the right way. Inspired by his needs mid-burnout and advice his father gave him as a young boy, Manny (along with his co-founder Rob) created ExcaliBars. Manny shares with us the unlikely connections between our bodies and his full-time career in automation, what his goals are with Heaven’s Pantry, and his personal habits that keeps him healthy.

Hitting Burnout

From a young age Manny L. was taught the importance of hard work and discipline. From school work to his eventual career in process automation and process improvement, Manny put in the hours necessary for success. In one consulting role he had early in his career, Manny recognized that he was starting to lose motivation. The combination of 14 hour days and endless coffee (that provided only a temporary boost) led him to feeling sluggish. He realized he needed to take a step back and re-evaluate his wellness and what his body was telling him. What he needed was a healthier and long-term solution for getting energy without the crash. When the perfect solution didn’t exist, he set out to make one.

Crafting a Solution

For Manny, the store-bought energy bars he tried all fell flat on his expectations. They either had good ingredients that, together, tasted bad, or bad ingredients that he didn't love putting in his body. But he knew there had to be a bar that could do both. Together he and his co-founder Rob played around in the kitchen, creating the ExcaliBar, an all-natural chocolate flavored energy bar with 6 key ingredients. Manny explains that each ingredient plays a very important role in the flavor and benefits of the bars- something that differen]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Energy Healing and Rewiring the Subconscious Mind with Shelly Burton]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[After a life-altering concussion, Shelly Burton’s life changed direction. When the varsity athlete tried to fight through her injury, the symptoms became too much to ignore. She not only felt her own pain, but had a heightened sense of awareness, extreme empathy, and felt the pain of others she came in contact with. She was forced to listen to her intuition for the first time. In this week’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, Shelly shares how she tapped into her inner voice and began pursuing her passion in energy medicine. Shelly shares how to know if energy healing is right for you and what it means to rewire your subconscious mind.

The Inner Voice

Shelly Burton grew up knowing that if she worked hard she could go far. By her fourth year of university, Shelly had pushed herself to accomplish everything she set out to do. She was just a year away from earning her degree in science and she was a key player on her varsity basketball team. Unfortunately, one game left Shelly with a serious concussion. She used the same method she had or past injuries - to fight through and keep pushing forward. She even tried to keep playing while injured. This had worked for her in the past, but this time was different and doctors couldn’t find a solution to the extreme pain she felt. Shelly’s symptoms made the noise of the world too much for her. She was exhausted, sleeping all the time, and knew she needed to find a way to rest and get better. Her body was telling her that she needed to listen to it, and for the first time Shelly tapped into her inner voice to figure out what she really needed.

A Rediscovery

An introduction to her inner voice was the push Shelly needed to pursue a career she felt called to. After her undergrad, she enrolled in a Medical Anthropology program at Oxford University. Her training in energy-healing began and she had a moment of clarity - her high sensitivity no longer needed to be a burden, but instead she could use it to her p]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Experiential Therapy and How It Speeds Up Transformation & Healing with Marla Berger]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Sometimes it is the experiences that matter most. For Marla Berger, a tough loss in her teens stayed with her almost a decade before it led her down her journey of pursuing a career in mental health. Through experiential therapy, she serves her clients through their personal struggles by giving them the opportunity to “practice” taking action instead of traditional talk therapy. These experiences utilize art, nature, and even horses. Marla, the founder of Berger Counseling Services, joins us in this week’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories.

The Important of Experience

Residing in South Florida, Marla Berger grew up loving art and horses, but would have never imagined the role they both play in her career today. In her youth, she was never inspired to incorporate her interests into a career. At the age of 16, Marla unfortunately lost a friend to suicide. This tragic experience opened Marla’s eyes to the perils of mental illness and the importance of therapy. While not an immediate light-bulb moment, these ideas sat with Marla and after some research she realized something pulling her towards experiential therapy. She went on to study art therapy, receiving her Bachelor's Degree from University of Florida and her Masters Degree in Art Therapy from University of Louisville. While studying, she was introduced to therapy with horses, but saw something missing. She began using horses in her own therapy sessions and became Advanced Certified in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. In 2009, she opened Berger Counseling Services to bring experiential therapy to clients of her own.

Then Vs Now

Since Marla has been in the mental health field since the 90’s, she had a lot to reflect on about the different view our society had on mental health then vs. now. The bright side is that today there is much less stigma and much more conversation surrounding mental health. However, with social media there is sometimes a lack of information when discussing mental he]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Drunk Fitness? It's a Thing. with Craig Ramsay]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Craig Ramsay has set out to make fitness not only fun, but inviting to us all. Who else could combine wine tasting and stretching into one unforgettable class -- but someone who has made movement a part of his life since the very beginning? In this episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, we are joined by Craig Ramsay who shares his story of movement, balance, and determination to prove that anyone can have a fitness journey catered just for them.

A Fitness Beginning

Craig Ramsay, who’s Canadian born, started his own fitness journey with a sport he was surrounded by -- hockey. From a young age he joined the sport and loved it (among others). He also loved the opportunity it gave him to move his body. Hockey taught him a lot about flexibility (interestingly enough!), something he continues to be proud of today. His flexibility brought him from hockey to contortionism, to ballet, and even dancing on Broadway in New York City! Versatile just barely describes Craig’s talents!

Craig continued hard to maintain his flexibility through simple stretching throughout his life. This practice taught him not only the importance of stretching in your life – but how easy stretching can be for anyone of any ability.

Bringing Fitness to TV

After his stint in live performances, Craig found himself spending a decade in Los Angeles with his own fitness shows on Bravo and authoring his very own book on stretching. His shows showcased his point of view on stretching to a wider audience, proving once again that everyone can relate to fitness if you make it fun and forgivable.

Craig shares his belief that there does not need to be guilt with fitness, instead he suggests ways to squeeze fitness into your life as it is. One perfect example? His wine and stretching classes, called Stretch a Reason to Wine, combine fitness with activities you already enjoy (sip, sip), making your fitness journey make sense for you, and increasing your chances of sticking with it.

<video:description><![CDATA[Heather Geronemus has turned her most devastating life experience into an opportunity to spread awareness of the impact of impaired driving. By day, Heather works as the Director of Corporate Affairs at UKG, Ultimate Kronos Group, and spends her free-time volunteering with many charitable organizations. One closest to her heart is Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), where she is currently the Chair on the National Board of Directors. This month, National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, we welcome Heather to Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories to share her personal experience as a victim of drunk driving and the work she does today to spread awareness.

She’s also breaking down how Covid-19 and “staying at home guidelines” are impacting impaired driving. Don’t miss her message this holiday season.

Heather described the death of her father as the beginning of the most terrible time of her life. His life was taken by a drunk driver, and ever since, her life has never been the same. Heather shares what it was like as a victim and the type of support she didn’t know she needed, until she got connected to MADD. After a few missed calls from a victim advocate and the feeling that she couldn’t handle her grief on her own, she finally saw the benefit MADD offered to loved ones who have lost someone to drinking and driving.

Heather points out that MADD and their victim advocates help so many people with no expectation of anything in return. Her personal experiences with them led Heather to getting more involved with the organization. Her work over the years includes establishing their Annual Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale event (soon celebrating 10 years!) to raise awareness in their community and continue the conversation of the dangers of drinking and driving.

Heather and MADD continue to do their work, whether in person or virtually, to reach as many people as they can on this issue. Anyone can be impacted by impaired driving at any ti]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Domes For Humanity: Building a Sustainable Future in Haiti with Daniella Gruenthal]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[A home is more than a house -- it’s where your story begins. That’s the motto of Domes for Humanity, a nonprofit with the mission to help communities build disaster-resistant homes and shelters. On today’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, we’re joined by Domes for Humanity Founder Daniella Gruenthal who shares her story and how Domes for Humanity came to be. Quite literally a dream come true, Daniella and Domes for Humanity are providing people and communities more than just a shelter.

Finding her Passion

Daniella Gruenthal always knew architecture and building were going to be in her future. With a family-owned construction business, she joked that she grew up on construction sites, but to be honest – she always loved it. Eventually, she pursued it as her career. After college, she worked on design and construction projects, from commercial to government.

Daniella also shares her passion for helping others. What started as volunteering in middle school, led to international mission trips in high school, and remained a passion of hers into adulthood. She had a firsthand view of the devastation natural disasters have around the world, which led her to studying the building of monolithic domes.

A Dream Come True

For over a decade Daniella had a recurring dream. She describes herself on a mountain, looking over a community of happy people living in dome shaped homes. With her new knowledge of dome home construction, she knew this dream had to mean something. After connecting with an organization in the country of Haiti (to potentially partner with them in bringing sustainable housing there), Daniella traveled there to visit the communities in need. Upon arrival, she was taken to a mountaintop view, and something clicked -- she was overlooking the exact view from her dreams. That moment told her that this is where she was supposed to be.

Since then, Domes for Humanity has been touching the lives of Haitian communities (and beyond) ]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[Despite her credentials, Dr. Nzinga Harrison prides herself on being a “regular ol’ person who loves regular ol’ people”. While Nzinga wears many hats, you can find her spending her days as the Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder of Eleanor Health – her outpatient treatment provider she started in 2019. Ever since she was young, Nzinga has had a heart for activism and advocacy, which comes out in her work at Eleanor Health. Her passion falls with people who've had their lives impacted by addiction and making sure they know how much their lives are worth. In today’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, we hear from Nzinga’s story from the moment she knew she wanted to pursue medicine, to finding her place to make a change.

There aren’t many of us who knew what we wanted to spend our life pursuing at the age of six, but for Nzinga that is exactly what happened. Very early in her life, she fell in love with science. When she recognized early-on that the doctors in her life, specifically her pediatrician, were missing something in their doctor-patient interactions with her, she decided that she could do better – so she set out to do so. Being in and out of doctors’ appointments growing up, Nzinga was able to get a clearer picture of what set doctors apart. She knew what she liked and what she didn’t. The main differentiating factor were the doctors who treated her like a person -- and that’s the kind of doctor she wanted to be.

In Nzinga’s pursuit of a medical degree, she fell deeper in love with science, the more she learned. During her rotations, she experienced Psychiatry work for the first time and didn’t see much value at first. She questioned, “Where is the science?” and expected to move on. However, through that work, her eyes were opened to the connection between science and feelings, decision making, and behaviors.

<video:description><![CDATA[Tal Zlotnitsky is helping you love more and love better. After two failed marriages, the serial entrepreneur had a realization – he didn’t know what it meant to “do” love well. And if he was having that problem, he knew there were others struggling in the same way. He took to his instincts and created Our.Love, a business helping us all love better. This episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories is all about the impact better love has on us all, the seven critical love skills, and Tal’s story that led to the app’s launch.

The “Why” Behind the Our.Love

Like many of us, Tal Zlotnitsky’s childhood impacted a lot of who he is today. Following in his entrepreneurial father’s footsteps, Tal grew up to start six companies and counting. At the age of six, Tal became a professional singer on TV in his home country of Israel, shaping the charismatic personality he has today. At times, Tal’s family did not have a lot of privilege to rely on, so Tal learned from personal experiences how important it was to treat all people with dignity.

Finally, Tal reflects that while his loving parents gave him the best life they could, as role models they showed him and his brothers a type of love that was imperfect – impacting the way he treated relationships for most of his adult life.

Learning to Love Better

When Tal realized that after 2 failed marriages he did not understand what it meant to do love “right”, he turned to research. Tal learned that there are seven critical love skills that we need to develop in order to show and receive our best love. This realization and opportunity for education led to Tal’s next business, and created a way for him to make an impact on others lives as well. He founded Our.Love, an app launched on Valentine’s Day 2022, for deepening relationships and learning how to love better. <video:description><![CDATA[We’re feeling the love with two guests on today’s Valentine’s Day episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories. Our first guest is Ali Nyman, a social worker who partners with Unicorn Children’s Foundation to teach classes to adults with autism all about love, dating, and relationships. Alongside Ali is Katie Santoro, a twenty-something self-described “oversharer” who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 24. Together they sit down with our host, Tamika, to discuss the importance of relationships for people of all abilities.

A Remarkable Journey

For Ali Nyman, helping people was her calling. She always envisioned her career in counseling and psychotherapy, pursued the right courses in college, and then found her way creating a position she loves. In 2016, she moved back to South Florida to begin providing social-educational and therapeutic services to adults with disabilities. As the co-founder of Remarkable, she partners with Unicorn Children’s Foundation (a nonprofit dedicated to creating career pathways for people with developmental disabilities) to provide classes on topics like dating and relationships. Their classes promote independence and inclusivity, with the core belief that everyone has unlimited potential.

Finding Answers

When Katie Santoro was wrapping up her college years, she felt extreme anxiety about taking on the upcoming transition into adulthood. Challenges that seemed manageable for her peers, felt overwhelming to Katie, and she didn’t know how she was going to manage the basics, like being employed or entering the dating world. It wasn’t until she was 24 when everything clicked: she was diagnosed with autism. Suddenly everything made sense. She had an explanation for why her brain worked the way it did, resources to help her overcome challenges she has, and support from organizations like Unicorn Children’s Foundation. <video:title><![CDATA[Consuming and Cooking with Oils? The Toxic Truth About a Common Habit with Udo Erasmus]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[There’s nothing more important than taking care of our bodies. But when everyday activities like cooking (yes – cooking) in our kitchens have the potential to be harmful, we must listen and learn how to form better, and healthier habits. (Trust me – so much in this conversation came as a BIG shock to me!) That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome Udo Erasmus for a mindblowing episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories to educate us about the healthy and harmful fats we’re consuming, and the damaging practice most of us are using in our kitchens. As a leader in a billion dollar industry, Udo is a co-founder, author, health and wellness educator who is passionate about helping us all take our health into our own hands one fat at a time.

Finding Safety

Udo Erasmus starts our conversation with his childhood when he was born in Poland. He was only two years old when World War II started, and many of his earliest memories were during his years as a refugee. He says he always felt unsafe, was constantly moved from his home, and even was separated from his family. After the war, Udo could not shake that anxious feeling that living as a refugee caused, and found his own safety another way. Udo focused on reading books and studying to understand more about the world. The more he could understand the way things worked, the better he felt. He studied science, biology, psychology, medicine, and health.

Diving In

Udo had decades of research experience and a passion for science, and ultimately found his niche after a personal health scare. He took a job as a pesticide sprayer in his 30s, but after only three short years on the job, he was diagnosed with pesticide poisoning. After a doctor told him there was nothing they could do, Udo realized that his health was solely his responsibility. He got back to his roots, and dove into research on how he could heal his body and calm his symptoms. The more contradicting information he found, the deeper he dove into the res]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Cancer Survivor Founds Venture-Backed Platform to Support Cancer Recovery with Liya Shuster-Bier]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[No one expects a cancer diagnosis, especially not before turning 30. This life-changing news was especially tough for Liya Shuster-Bier when it came just a short time after helping her mother undergo the same tough cancer treatments she had ahead of her. Luckily Liya had the positive attitude needed to overcome it, and see the silver lining in a cancer diagnosis: creating a digital health resource making cancer less lonely for people around the world. Liya didn’t get to that point without challenges along the way, and she shares her story from cancer diagnosis to CEO on this episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories.

Seeing the Gaps

Life for Liya in 2016 looked a lot different than it does today. Then, she was finishing her business degree and building a career in impact investing. It wasn’t until a call on her way to her new internship that her life was shaken up. Her mom had breast cancer. All at once Liya dove into this new world as a caretaker while finishing school. Every doctor appointment brought new questions for both her and her mom, keeping what Liya describes as “the burden of keeping her alive” on the two of them, rather than the professionals they were surrounded by. At the time Liya made excuses and blamed their own shortcomings for the tough time they had navigating care, but she soon found out they were not alone in this industry-wide issue.

Embracing the Unexpected

Two years later Liya and her husband were heading out on vacation when she ended up in the ER for chest pains. After running test after test, they were about to let the “healthy” 29-year-old go when a doctor noticed a tumor. Just when Liya thought her hardships were winding down, she was thrown into cancer care once more, this time as the patient. Yet again, Liya saw the gaps cancer patients had to experience in their care. There were unanswered questions, difficult choices, and even with a physician as a husband she still felt lost at times.

Creating Change

<video:title><![CDATA[Balanced Not Bingeing: From TV Anchor To Weight Loss Blogger with Angela Cruz]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Angela Cruz, a former TV reporter and news anchor turned weight loss blogger, has struggled with weight loss and binge eating for much of her life. It’s impacted her confidence, relationships, and her ability to earn money. In fact, studies show that women who are overweight earn less in the workplace than thin women. On the flipside, Angela’s journey has helped her grow and monetize a YouTube Channel.

In Episode 83, Angela shares her personal story of binge eating, yo-yo dieting, and where she is now in her journey. She’s also offering her advice on growing a YouTube channel and what worked for her, in this episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, Balanced Not Bingeing: From TV Anchor To Weight Loss Blogger.

From TV to YouTube

On an average day, Angela Cruz wears many hats. She has a past as a TV news anchor and reporter, but in 2014 Angela pivoted her career to public relations. Along with that change, Angela found herself on camera again – but in a new way. In 2014, she also began creating beauty content on her YouTube channel in her spare time, but quickly found herself struggling with consistency and finding ways to stand out. It wasn’t until she shared her personal weight loss journey with her channel, or niched down, when her message began to resonate with her followers. This turned into a rapidly growing following.

Overcoming Binge Eating

When Angela reflects on her past experiences with attempted weight loss and healthy lifestyle changes, she shares that she didn’t always find success in her attempts. She dabbled in yo-yo diets, set difficult goals, yet often found herself coming back to her binge eating addiction. It wasn’t until Angela started a journey for long-term weight loss that she was able to see things in a different light.

Earlier last year, Angela started (and documented) a program called Brightline Eating. This strict eating plan worked well for her for one year and earned her even more followers and subscriber]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[The year 2020 was a difficult one for many, but for Iliana Perez-Ruiz, each month brought a new life-changing challenge. On top of a global pandemic, Iliana underwent a sudden divorce, lost her job, and was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. Even with so much thrown at her, Iliana showed her strength. In today’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, Iliana tells her story of how she overcame each and every curveball 2020 threw her way, and how just a year later, she’s cancer-free, a successful business owner, and happier than ever.

Iliana Perez-Ruiz is no stranger to overcoming challenges. While the rest of the world was coping with the beginning of a global pandemic, Iliana had the added stress of a fresh divorce from her husband of over 15 years. Just a short time later, she found out that she had lost her job, a position in the insurance industry which she considered the “peak of her career,” and a position she worked hard to achieve. With the need for distraction (and extra time at home), Iliana found a hobby that pulled her through.

Since she and her daughter were spending more time at home together, they began to bake a dessert called Pavlova together - a special treat they usually had for special occasions. When it turned out even better than expected, they questioned, “Why not put this on Instagram and see what happens?”. Thanks to friends and family spreading the word, and exciting local news hits (like on WSVN and OnlyinDade)... what happened ended up being the start of their new business, Oh My Pavlova.

However, in the midst of their growth, Iliana got even more troubling news: After a self-examination and a trip to the ER, Iliana was diagnosed with stage 1 Ovarian cancer. Undergoing surgery and treatment was not easy, and for a while, Oh My Pavlova had to be put on hold. But as time went on, Iliana persevered and found her way back to her business and making cakes once more for her community. She used the business as a positive d]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[4 Types of Stories You Should Be Telling In Your Service-Based Business]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[I’m baaaaaack for a solo episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories. As the host of a podcast all about sharing entrepreneurship stories, and the owner of a business that does the same… something I’ve heard too often from business owners is “I just don’t like talking about myself.” If you want to market your small business, you MUST tell YOUR small business stories. Today, I sit down to discuss the four stories your small business needs to be telling, and how that leads to building authentic connections.

If you have a service-based business and a passion for what you do, chances are you have a powerful story waiting to be told. But, as someone who has worked with small businesses on bringing their stories to life, I’ve seen how uncomfortable storytelling can be when we are doing it for ourselves. For most small business owners, marketing is a part of what you do, to some degree. You’re not only selling your services but selling why you are the best at what you do. If you’re an entrepreneur who feels they don’t have a compelling story to tell, here are the four stories you can, and should, be sharing:

1. Your Personal Story

Your path is unique to you. What is the reason you get out of bed every day and do the work you do? What led you to it? What keeps you motivated? Whatever it is that you do, there is a reason for your passion – share it. People relate to passion.

2. Your Business Story

This should be an easy story to tell, the origin of your business and why you started it. Thinking about what led you down this road, but also what led you to your business niche. In Episode 1 of the podcast, I shared my business story of accidental entrepreneurship, and how my niche sets me and my business apart.

3. Your Client Stories

This is where you can show proof that your business brings clients success. Share the stories of results from those you have helped. Use results, facts, figures, and quotes to tell a clear story of why workin]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Why Storytelling Videos Are Essential for Business Growth]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[In this video, I break down why storytelling videos are essential for business growth and how they can transform your marketing strategy. 🌟

Here's what you'll learn:
1️⃣ Drive Fundraising and Investor Relations: Storytelling videos help explain your mission and purpose in a clear, concise, and engaging way, making it easier for investors and donors to understand and support your goals.
2️⃣ Boost Visibility and Relationship Building: Featuring your customers, partners, and team members in your videos, rather than just the leadership, helps deepen relationships and increases visibility. It's a win for everyone involved!
3️⃣ Attract and Retain Top Talent: Millennials and Gen Z are driven by purpose. According to a study, 85% of millennials believe that making a positive difference in the world is more important than professional recognition. Storytelling videos can connect with them on a deeper level, helping you attract and retain motivated employees.
4️⃣ Build Brand Trust and Loyalty: Did you know that 77% of consumers are motivated to purchase from companies committed to making the world a better place? And 73% of investors consider environmental and social efforts in their investment decisions. (HBS) Storytelling videos give people a compelling reason to invest in and support your brand.

Watch the video to see how you can leverage storytelling videos to achieve these goals and elevate your business. 🎥✨

<video:title><![CDATA[Strategic Storytelling: Turning Partnerships into Performance]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[What if the key to growing your brand wasn’t just more marketing—but further leveraging partnerships?

In this video, we explore how a community-focused arts and cultural center leveraged strategic partnerships to increase brand awareness by 67% and drive engagement. Rather than marketing in isolation, they embraced co-branded storytelling—working with their partners to amplify their message, expand their reach, and deepen community trust.

Here’s a sneak peak into how:
✅ Cross-promotion with key stakeholders
✅ Co-branded content that created shared value
✅ A digital toolkit to empower ambassadors and ensure message consistency

The result? More than just visibility. Their top programs doubled in size—some by 150%—because when your partners believe in your mission, they help you amplify it further.

Strategic partnerships aren’t just a nice-to-have; they’re a growth accelerator. If you want to explore how storytelling can help you leverage partnerships for more impact, let’s talk.

<video:title><![CDATA[The Power of Partnerships: Amplify Impact Through Storytelling]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Partnerships are one of the biggest drivers of business growth and community impact. In fact, 49% of businesses say that at least a quarter of their revenue comes from partnerships (thanks, HubSpot!).

But beyond the numbers, partnerships are also a storytelling opportunity—one that builds credibility, expands your reach, and creates deeper connections with your audience.

In this video, we break down why storytelling is the missing piece in most partnership strategies and how organizations can use it to:

✨ Boost Credibility & Trust – Third-party validation goes a long way.
📢 Expand Reach Through Cross-Promotion – Tapping into your partners’ audiences puts your brand in front of new viewers.

🌍 Strengthen Community Ties – Big brands can feel closer to communities by working with local organizations, and storytelling helps showcase those relationships.

🔹 Real-World Example: We helped a bank amplify their nonprofit partnership program through storytelling. Their commitment wasn’t just about writing checks—it was about showing up, volunteering, and sponsoring community events. By capturing and sharing that story, we helped them strengthen relationships and attract even more partners.

Is your organization fully leveraging the power of partnership storytelling? Let’s talk about how you can highlight your impact and expand your reach.

✅ Purpose-driven brands see higher employee engagement and greater brand trust. (Deloitte)

We’ve seen the power of impact storytelling first hand:

✨ A company giving grants to small businesses, helping them scale and create jobs.
✨ An organization preparing adults with disabilities for the workforce, creating opportunities for independence.
✨ A nonprofit making music education accessible to students, ensuring financial barriers don’t limit opportunity.

Your organization is already doing the work—now it’s time exponentially amplify this.

When you share your impact in a meaningful way, you don’t just inspire action—you strengthen your brand, deepen customer loyalty, and increase business value.

This video covers how you can use impact storytelling to align with your business goals.

<video:description><![CDATA[🎥 From Inspiration to Impact: The Story Behind TB Media Group’s Mission

Why do we do what we do? At TB Media Group, storytelling isn't just our passion—it's deeply personal. This video takes you back to the moment that started our journey in 2015 and why impact storytelling continues to be the driving force behind everything we do.

Our very first client project with the City of Sunrise was a turning point.

We captured the uniqueness of an intergenerational program that connected senior citizens and high school students through storytelling. From teaching internet basics (yes – even online dating!) to sharing life lessons, this initiative bridged generational gaps in meaningful ways.

Through a series of videos, we didn’t just document these connections—we told a story that inspired action. This storytelling approach secured commission buy-in and sustained funding for the program, proving that the right (authentic) narrative can drive measurable change.

This experience solidified our mission: to help organizations amplify their purpose, drive meaningful change, and achieve measurable results through the art of strategic storytelling.

<video:description><![CDATA[In 2024, our impact videos helped clients secure eight figures in investments for their organizations. How? By focusing on what truly resonates with investors: mission, impact, and community stories.

In this video, I’ll break down the exact strategies we used to help organizations communicate their value and secure major funding:

📌 Shifting the focus to mission-driven initiatives—because investors care about the difference you’re making in your community.
📌 Highlighting unique differentiators—showing what sets your organization apart, from partnerships to the value you create.
📌 Telling stories that matter—capturing the voices of those you’ve impacted and letting them validate your mission.

The result? Investors saw the real-world impact through authentic, powerful stories, and that made all the difference.

Here’s a stat you need to know: 73% of investors say social and environmental efforts drive their investment decisions. (Aflac)
Your mission matters – especially when it comes to the bottom line.
If you’re ready to tell your story and drive meaningful action, I’d love to help.

<video:title><![CDATA[Preview Our Process for Goal-Driven Storytelling]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Did you know? 📢 71% of customers make purchases from businesses that align with their values. (5W Public Relations) So, what does that mean when it comes to telling the story of your organization?
We often get this question from organizations wondering, “How do we determine what story to tell?” See below for our proven process.

Step 1: Start with the End in Mind
Before we craft any story, we begin with the outcome.
✅ What action do you want your audience to take?
✅ Are we speaking to multiple audiences?
Once we define this, we can move to the next step.

Step 2: Identify the Key Message
Once we know the desired action, we ask:
✅ What message does your audience need to hear to motivate them to take that action?
✅ What key value, belief, or impact will resonate most with them?
Instead of overwhelming them with multiple messages, we focus on the one that is unique to them and will ultimately drive real results.

Step 3: Shape the Story
Now, we determine:
🎤 Who needs to tell this story? (The right voices create trust.)
🎬 What visuals bring it to life? (Strong imagery makes stories memorable.)
📡 What’s the best way to deliver it? (Video, testimonials, case studies?)
This is where our expertise in storytelling execution comes into play.

Example: A Nonprofit Capital Campaign
Let’s say a nonprofit supports individuals and families with autism from birth through adulthood and is launching a capital campaign.
🎯 Their goal? Get business owners who hire employees with disabilities to donate.
💡 Their key message? Highlight their job-seeking program for adults with disabilities.
📖 The right story? A real success story of someone who found meaningful employment through their program.
By tailoring messaging to what the audience values most, we align their interests with the organization's impact—leading to authentic engagement and real action.

<video:title><![CDATA[How to Authentically Share Your Company's Social Impact Story]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Are you ever hesitant about sharing your social responsibility, ESG, or CSR initiatives? You're not alone. Many organizations worry about how they'll be perceived, especially with concerns about greenwashing. But there are effective ways to authentically communicate your impact and inspire your audience.

In this video, I share tips on how to approach your CSR communications:
1. *Authenticity is Key:* Be true and honest in your efforts. Avoid using only your leadership team to tell your stories. Instead, feature customers, benefactors, community partners, and volunteers who can speak to your impact from their perspective.

2. *Integrated Strategy:* Ensure your CSR communications are part of a company-wide, integrated strategy. Share your efforts across multiple channels – social media, your website, reports, and emails. According to studies, 79% of consumers are more likely to believe a company's CSR commitments if shared across various platforms.

3. *Example of Sensitive Storytelling:* We worked with Critical Event Response Applications (CERA), a software operating system for law enforcement to respond efficiently to critical incidents like school shootings. By featuring survivors, teachers, lawmakers, and first responders, we created an authentic and impactful story that resonated across multiple channels and garnered significant media coverage.

Dr. Edward McGovern, CEO and Founder of CERA, emphasized the importance of having firsthand experience and a clear purpose, which was crucial in telling their story effectively.

The result? Increased visibility, media features, and ultimately, the support and investment needed to drive their mission forward.

If you're concerned about how to share your story appropriately, remember that authenticity and a well-rounded strategy are your best tools. Lean on your video partner to help you communicate your efforts effectively.

<video:title><![CDATA[Lessons from the Field: Inspiring Change Through Storytelling]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Ever wondered how a background in broadcast journalism can enhance storytelling in the corporate world, especially for ESG and CSR leaders? Let me take you through my journey from an award-winning TV journalist to a brand storyteller and video producer.

In this video, I share:
1. Simplifying Complex Information: My journalism experience taught me to distill complex information into clear, digestible pieces that anyone can understand. This skill is crucial in making your social impact stories accessible and engaging.
2. Audience-Centric Approach: Just like in news, keeping the audience at the heart of our stories is key. I discuss how understanding your audience's needs and motivations can guide the storytelling process to inspire action.
3. Human-Centered Stories: People are at the core of compelling stories. I explain why having a human element is essential in making deeper connections with your audience and effectively communicating your impact.

Want to learn more about my approach and how we can help you tell your social impact stories? Let's connect! Check out the links below for more resources and my contact information.

<video:title><![CDATA[Giving Voice to the Underserved: The Importance of Human-Centric CSR Storytelling]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[What I truly love about video is its ability to create a memorable experience that evokes emotion and inspires action. Whether it's learning more, advocating, or doing more, video has the power to move people. My journey began as a local TV news journalist, where I learned the importance of going three layers deeper with stories, putting people at the heart of each narrative. This approach allowed audiences to relate and be inspired to take action.

For example, during my time in Montgomery, Alabama, I covered a story called "Living in Poverty," highlighting that one in three children in Alabama lived in poverty. By profiling a family of four living on less than $12,000 a year, we showcased the struggles and resilience of a single mother. The response was incredible – people donated food, clothing, and even a college scholarship for her daughter. This story not only opened my eyes, but also demonstrated the community's willingness to help when educated with authentic, human-centered stories.

At TB Media Group, we apply the same journalistic approach to help brands tell their stories. We prioritize authenticity and depth, ensuring that each story resonates with the audience and drives action. Our work in CSR and ESG communications is about more than just data and statistics; it's about making the human impact visible and relatable.

<video:title><![CDATA[Demonstrating Impact: Effective Storytelling for Nonprofit + Corporate Partnerships]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[*Partnering for Community Impact*

As a social impact team, you excel at partnering with nonprofits and deepening your relationships within local communities. By amplifying existing programs, you align with your mission and purpose.

*Communicating Your Impact*

But after establishing these partnerships, how are you communicating the impact? This is where storytelling plays a crucial role.

*Deepening Relationships Through Storytelling*

Storytelling can strengthen the relationship between corporate partners and nonprofits. Often, ESG or CSR reports focus on metrics like dollars donated or attendees. While important, these metrics don’t capture the full story.

➡️ *Watch This Video For An Example!*

*The Power of Storytelling*

Storytelling humanizes your efforts and demonstrates the value of your partnership. It also helps nonprofits amplify their work and impact. Video content, in particular, is a win-win for both sides.

<video:title><![CDATA[Living Room Wisdom | Season 4 | Episode 7 | Guest: Tamika Bickham, CEO of TB Media Group]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Tamika is a video podcaster, award-winning TV journalist, and on-camera host. She started her career as a journalist on local TV news, but in 2014 she walked away from it all—by accident. She turned her love of telling stories into a full-time business by accident. On purpose, she runs a video and content marketing agency that tells visual stories for health & happiness brands.

In this podcast, we discuss:
· How did she get into journalism?
· Her journey on her success being an entrepreneur?
· How did she handle her depression?

"What feels good to you? Throughout the journey, and, yeah, keep telling stories. Because at the end of the day, that's what's going to attract people to you." -Tamika
