National Bankers Association 2024 Conference, Equity in Action: Charting a Course for Inclusive Banking
October 10, 2024 - 8:30 am
Being bold and audacious about closing the wealth gap.
This was one of the resounding themes of last week’s National Bankers Association Conference, a conference where policy makers, Minority Depository Institutions, fintechs, and partners gathered to discuss the key opportunities and challenges facing MDIs.
What does this have to do with me — a storyteller?
Over the last year, my team at TB Media Group jumped head-first into learning, strategizing, and storytelling around the history and impact of MDIs — mission-driven banks. I personally, learned more than I could have ever imagined about the role that MDls play in serving low-to-moderate income communities, supporting entrepreneurs, creating opportunities for wealth building, and ultimately closing the wealth gap.
So, naturally, the topic of storytelling came up on several panels throughout the conference.
The Chairman of the FDIC said, “Every MDI has a story to tell; the origin, the startup, and the success of an MDI, each I think is unique and inspirational.”He went on to say that to tell that story is important for potential sources of private and public support.
It was an enriching experience to connect with so many new faces at my first NBA Conference, as well as share some of the work we’ve produced for MDIs this year.
Thanks to our partners at Fiserv for being fierce supporters of MDIs and champions of telling their stories.
It was a pleasure meeting so many of you in person who are leading the charge in your communities.
Here’s to being bold and audacious!
